In the wake of the booming startup culture in India, the food-tech segment is looked upon as the next big thing among space exploration, bio-tech and artificial intelligence, in terms volume and market size. The scalability and reach  provided by the web and app platforms are the key here. The sector has seen huge growth in the past one year. The market place is flooded by a host of such food startups. We tracked a few of them have put themselves on the map.

 1. Faasos

 

Based in Pune and started by Jaydeep Barman and kallol Banerjee, this online food ordering has received a funding of at least USD 30 million from Sequoia and Lightbox Ventures. It plans to expand to new cities in the future.

  1. Leaping Caravan

Based in Gurgaon and South Delhi, Leaping Caravan is a physical restaurant that expanded to the cloud, starting its online ordering business. It has raised at least $ 1,50,000 and plans to raise $2 M in early VC funding. It has been started by International Hospitality Management Major, Megha Tuli.

Frsh is a healthy food delivery start up based in Delhi NCR. It has raised at least $1 M and has been funded by Mumbai Angels, Roposo Co-founder Mayank Bhangdia and its existing investor Kae Capital. It is founded by IIT Delhi graduate Badal Goel. It plans to expand its operations to Expand operations in Mumbai and Bangalore.

Based in Gurgaon, Meal Hopper has raised at least $ 1 M from ixigo.com Co-founders Alok Bajpaiand Rajnish Kumar. Founded by Avinash Singh and Aatish Kumar,  this chef aggregation startup plans to expand its operations to more cities.

Based in Delhi and Gurgaon, EasyKhana, is an online food delivery startup. Funded by Private investors, it has raised at least $100,000. 

6. ZuperMeal

ZuperMeals is based in Mumbai and has raised about $ 2 Million in funding from Sanjeev Kapoor and a few others and caught on a lot of eyeballs. Founded by Balasubramanian A. and Pallavi Saxena, it is a House-wife and chef Aggregation model. It has three product categories Home cooked meals (lunch, evening snacks and dinner), Zuper Specials (cakes, pickles, laddoos, namkeens, theplas and regional specialties), and everyday tiffin service.

Based in Bengaluru, nutritionally balanced foods and Personalized meal options Online Food Ordering startup, Jiyo has raised an undisclosed amount of funds from Indian Angel Network. Jiyo  8. Hola Chef

This Chef-Aggregation startup based in Mumbai, has raised $ 315,000 from the angel- India Quotient, $ 3.1 million from Kalaari Capital and an undisclosed amount from Ratan Tata. Its started by IIT-Bombay graduates Saurabh Saxena and Anil Gelra (IIT-Bombay).

A startup backed up by Robin uthapa, Itiffin is based in Bengaluru. It has raised at least $ 1 M and is founded by Ray Fernando(Ex-VP Finance Flipkart) and Tapan Das Kumar (Also backed by Robin Uthapa). It plans to add Capacity to process 10 lakh meals per month.

Raw pressery based in Mumbai is making headlines. It is boot strapped at the moment. It is Founded by Anuj Rakyan. It manufactures and sells Cold-Pressed Juices. It plans to expand its line of juices.

Founded by Abhimanyu Maheshwari and Ex-Zomato CMO Alok Jain and based in Gurgaon, Yumist has raised about $2 Million from Orios Venture Partners and Steven Lurie. Yumist is an Online Food Ordering platform for homely meals.
